Botox ® is a Prescription Medicine containing 100 units of clostridium botulinum type A complex for injection. It is used of the treatment of severe frown lines and associated ‘crows feet’ around the eyes. If should be administered only by trained medical professionals.
Xeomin
Uses XEOMIN® is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults for a short period of time (temporary).
Dysport
Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription injection for temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults less than 65 years of age.
WHAT ARE ANTI-WRINKLE (MUSCLE RELAXANT) INJECTIONS AND HOW DO THEY WORK?
Anti-wrinkle injections are composed of a natural purified protein, called Botulinum Toxin, (hence the origin of the name), that relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles creating a smoother, rejuvenated and more youthful appearance. The muscle relaxant inhibits the communication between the nerves and the muscles therefore disabling them from contracting and forming wrinkles. The number of injections required
varies depending upon what part of the face is being treated.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Most patients find the treatment quick and not too uncomfortable, some describe it as feeling like an bee-sting for a few seconds. The needles used are tiny micro needles and once the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort. Very rarely some patients experience a mild headache after treatment. If necessary a local anaesthetic cream can be applied to the skin or ice is used to minimise the
discomfort.
WHERE IS IT INJECTED TO REDUCE WRINKLES?
On the Upper Face: It relaxes dynamic frown lines between the brow, on the forehead, bunny lines on the nose, and the wrinkles around the eyes. We can also achieve a good brow lift. It makes you look less worried, angry and tired, with a more relaxed, approachable, and confident look. For the Lower Face: When used in a controlled fashion by a skilled injector with extensive experience, the product can cause a jowl lift, lift corner of mouth and improve appearance of marionette lines. We can also treat a gummy smile or bands in the neck. We also frequently use it to reshape a very pronounced or square jaw line due to enlarged jaw muscles (masseters).
WHAT KIND OF WRINKLES DOES IT TREAT?
To understand the various treatments of wrinkles, one must understand that there are different kinds of wrinkles, dynamic and static lines or wrinkles. Dynamic lines or wrinkles are those wrinkles and lines that appear when your face is animated. Static lines or wrinkles are those facial lines that are evident even when our face is
at rest and are due to volume loss and are better treated with dermal fillers. These two types of wrinkles are what separate Botox from any of the injectable fillers. Toxin is for dynamic wrinkling. It is a muscle relaxing agent so it will soften the wrinkles and lines that occur from a dynamic facial movement, such as between the brows with frowning or the crow' s feet from smiling or around the mouth from excessive pursing of the lips. With ageing, this repetitive motion the skin starts to
show strain, deep folds and tiny wrinkles start to develop.
